New SGi VW230
Hi all Smile

Just to share a good buy some years ago on ebay for a good price (100€ if I remember), a brand new VW230. Nothing fancy, but it's a pretty good machine running W2000. I'm using it as a Nintendo Dolphin devkit host PC (with a PCi card connected to the kit to emulate a hard drive on Windows)  and some old school stuff like running Windows 3D software

Not really an "SGI" proper since it's literally a Wintel machine without any custom hardware or chipsets, but nonetheless interesting buy.

Neato, and a cool use for it. It's pretty tragic inside though, I didn't realize just how barren and bland their wintel machines were. I have an Intergraph (designed just before SGI bought them) on my desk at work, and it's the same kind of thing: funky on the outside, basically uninteresting on the inside (aside from the dual P3s, which at least look kinda cool).

your right, it's pretty boring but it look cool and it replace perfectly my beige old school machine for retro stuff. The weird things is the fan at the back, crazy loud, but luckily it's 120mm if I remember correctly (a good surprise) so it's no problem for a swap.

Yeah, it looks hella cool. Much cooler than a standard period PC.

For interests sake, the Intergraph on my desk is one of these. I hold out hopes that I'll be able to take it home when I move but...probably not...

Nice, you have the VR3 which is a Quadro DDR with a slightly higher clock then the reference (140 MHz instead of 135 MHz).
