After repeated back to back rewatches of both Japanese and English dubs (yes, even both Ocean and Funimation) of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Abridged by the Texas-based Team Four Star, I have to say that TFS really outdid themselves.

Barring issues with the first season in terms of its overall production quality, I have to say that it balanced comedy, with realistic rewrites to characters that were endearing. I can't tell you how many times I have quoted Mr. Popo, Krillin, Tenshinhan, or Super Kami Guru. Even getting people like Little Kuriboh to voice Freeza was genius.

Now I will admit I didn't grow up watching Funimation dubbed Dragon Ball Z, it was all Ocean in my household. And I personally really cannot stand either dub. I own the original Japanese DVDs that I bought almost a decade ago simply because I found Chris Sabat's voice to be gratingly retarded, plus the censorship in the Saban Entertainment provided video tracks (Hell was censored to HFIL and shit). 

I think the biggest issue with the original Dragon Ball Z compared to the abridged is the pacing which is pretty much why Dragon Ball Kai became a thing. Kai definitely has much better pacing.

the original french version of DBZ is way worse, sometimes the removed portion of the episodes that were considered by psychologists that were too violent and some episode were absoutely not comphrensible since it could that a very important portion of the episode was remove since it was too violent to show to kids (before mostly animes were saw by kids) and btw because of the press saying that anime was too violent it was in 1996 that the Club Dorothée was stopped. (The Club Dorothée was principaly broadcasting animes)

How good is French voice acting in anime in general? I don't really have a lot of experience with it because I can't speak French and unlike languages that I have some familiarity with it's just totally incomprehensible at times.

Also I don't know if it matters but are the Canadian French dubs any better?

Hehe, NO the french canadian version is considered to be one of the most worse dubbed version of the anime. But the french version (so not from Quebec) is really good. The caracthers have really good voices and we can feel the caracthers emotions in the dubbing. But not the french canadian version, Its all bad, Gohan voice is absoutely awful. and the worse is that for some reasons the music stops when there a sound effect or when a caracther talks. If you wanna learn French and that you wanna watch in anime in French for learning the language, most French dubbs for animes are really good. France is one of the few countries that put anime in the culture of the country. France is also the 2nd country that has the most manga and anime as well, the first being of course, Japan. but please if you wanna learn French and that you wanna watch DBZ (the original) don't pick the french canadian version.

I probably won't ever learn French but I appreciate the offer. One of the hardest aspects of learning a language for me is when I can't pronounce a word properly due to various issues.

In my case I can't speak Spanish for example with a proper Castilian accent I have to use a Latin American accent because I can't pronounce th sounds that easily. With French there's a lot of pet peeves that it has such as bad orthography and verbi regularity that make it less than ideal for me. On top of the fact that I can't pronounce certain words correctly due to the shape of my tongue.

Yeah, French is not easy to learn, i can comprehend that for the moment im learning japenese which is pretty hard at the same time btw.

Japanese is not easy either. I already speak Chinese not on a fluent level but on a level enough to get around. Compare it to a foreigner who has the proper form and function with French but just doesn't get enough practice to understand in depth conversations. I can go to a restaurant and order food and pay a bill, check into a hotel or take the subway in Chinese. I can also somewhat read a newspaper. But I can't translate one of my technical articles into Chinese.

Speaking of since you are bilingual, if you ever are interested we are definitely very much interested in having our documentation translated into other languages, including French. I don't have the capability right now to handle this such as fair compensation because of my other obligations at the moment but maybe in the near future if you are interested in doing so then we would be more than happy to have you translate our documentation into French. That could assist other people who are looking into the hobby who lack 100% English proficiency. Similarly I am interested in people who are fluent in Spanish and German. Japanese and other languages are also there as well but it's a lot harder for me to find people who can check either my translations or double check my work when I'm reviewing what somebody has done.
