SGI 320 and 540 Visual Workstations

RE: SGI 320 and 540 Visual Workstations
You also have to look at the time period we're talking about here, in those days, whenever a new game came out I literally had to buy a new PC, so machines were driven into obsolescence every one to two years during that period. (Technology was advancing very quickly back then.)

I'm typing this message on my PC which I built back in 2010 which can still play the latest games with max settings at 2560x1440_60, so the advance in technology has definitely slowed in the past few years, especially from a CPU point of view.

Great pics of the VW 320. Almost bought one twice. They show up in Los Angeles in the Craigslist every year or so.

I remember when they were marketing them and I saw.... no Irix, No Risc/Mips processors. Just an SGI label.

Sure, now I see they were multiproc prosumer spec setups. But, the mystery of having a pricy windows machine with an SGI logo on it completely made me lose interest.

I was in it for 3D but looked at price and said... I could buy three good spec computers and have three scenes rendering which is what I did do at the time.
