Just a thought, but it might be your monitor!

I don't know about the O2, but machines such as the Tezro do change the way they output when they go from the PROM to loading the OS. (Maybe this is what is happening here.)

Try another monitor if you can.

Yep, same with the O2. After the Prom the setmon resolution for Irix is loaded. If the panel can't handle 72Hz at 1280x1024 then it's not going to show anything, as this is the standard Irix default resolution I believe. I *think* the same is true for when you launch fx.ARCS or fx.64.

Good idea, but this is not the case. I know it, because I have access to another SGI O2 that display correctly the Irix desktop and the boot sequence on this monitor. So, the problem come definitivly from the O2 itself. I stay you updated as soon I have received the flat pannel monitor, should be a couple of days.

Hi, I received the flat pannel monitor, connected it to the machine, and... The problem still remain, the computer still goes to black on both monitors as soon I try to boot onto something.
Then, I borrowed another CPU card from a friend, a slower one (180 Mhz), and guess what : with the other CPU board, the machine boot without going to black. i was even able to install Solaris 6.5 witout problem.
So, it's looks like my CPU board is defect, or has a bad configuration. I will now try to find another one to buy.

I assume you mean Irix 6.5.

The machine will also go to black screen after prom if you're trying to load Irix 6.3 on a R12k CPU. I've not heard of the CPU alone causing the machine to display black after the PROM? This is indeed weird. The only thing I can think of is that the CPU Pimm's boot prom is corrupt.

Yes, I think that te most plausible explanation is a defectiv prom on the cpu board itself. Now I get another cpu board that I bought on Ebay and all is good. Weird :-)
I tried the supposed fautly cpu board in my fiend's O2, and we have the same result (black screen after boot initiated).
