Merry Christmas! (2019)
I know it's just Christmas Eve, but I've decided on a whim that now's a better time than ever to discuss the newest feature on IRIXNetwork, and an accompanying project.

Let me introduce "Silicon Image": https://siliconimage.irixnet.org

This is an image hosting system based on the Gallery3 revival project I was alerted to just a week ago. Since then, over the last 3 days I coded and hacked and hammered the bastard into place enough that it works.

Silicon Image is designed for, and will probably become the primary image hosting service of the forums and community, if all goes well.

The site still has some bugs, namely:

Account Activations: These must be activated manually. Please when signing up use your forum userid, and a valid email. I will then go around, activate the account, and send you a temporary password. This limitation is because it has no PHPMailer class support and I don't have the time to code PHPMailer or PEAR Mail class support in, and no, mail();/sendmail cannot be used on this particular setup since in order for any major email provider to accept it, it must not be unauthenticated, sent across open relays, or sent using any unsecured protocols.

Compatibility issues with Safari: These are upstream and I cannot fix them, so if there's graphical glitches you notice, there's probably nothing I can do to fix that.

Minor glitches during navigation.

I ask that everyone use provided albums (when applicable) and not create any albums on the root page without my prior permission.

Let me discuss the little subproject, which you've probably seen by now on that page:

The fabled Nekochan Gallery. Yes, I'm reuploading this. Yes, I am doing it by hand. Yes, it's incomplete as we speak. There's a number of motivations behind this:

1. There exists no major public mirror of Nekochan's gallery using a similar setup.

2. Nekonomicon, run by "Elf" has appeared to go into dormancy. At the very least; if he ever picks his up again, it's probably gonna take far longer than it would for me to monkey the pictures, even with thousands to go. I can work fast enough listening to "Scotland the Brave" while drinking coquito, at least!

3. I can't bring back their wiki (most of the important data and quality articles WAS ported, what remains is mostly stuff that deserves a rewrite!). I can't bring back their forum. But I can bring back this. In some small way, that's a huge victory.

It'll eventually be listed, until I can be arsed to incorporate it elsewhere, on the "Files" page. We'll talk about that once I've gotten some actual feedback, I guess.

Anyways, what ya' bastards waiting for? It's ready to go!

Just a small thing this job has told me over the last week - there's still plenty of you guys worth working hard over. Even if it means draining my liquor cabinet and getting occasionally sad about the setbacks. Overall though, I do enjoy busting my ass for the good guys here.

Merry Fuckin' Christmas, Happy Third Damned Night, and Happy Godsforsaken Birthday Akihito.

-Raion

P.S. – I'm absolutely fucking plastered as I write this, hence the sailor mouth, rambling and sudden mood changes. All the same, you guys are worth it.

Other than the Miscellaneous category, the SGI Hardware section is done.

Environment will probably be the LAST to be touched. It's over 600 images.

RE: Merry Christmas! (2019)
Other than this album:

https://web.archive.org/web/201511231752...uter_room/

The archive is officially complete. There were one or two images I couldn't pull from the archive.org, and the metadata, titles, albumids etc. are all screwed up, but it's a start. There were some MPEG movies and stuff too. We can't upload those for the major reasons:

1. Gallery3 doesn't support the same movie formats, so I may need to re-encode them
2. FFPMEG and the other tools it needs are EXTREMELY resource intensive and this Gallery3 app is pretty heavyweight like Budai as is.
3. Bandwidth. Especially from scrapers. Images is one thing, but MPEGs can get big and they're big targets for leeches.

If anyone wants to mirror the images, I will be working on a dump of the uploaded images when done.

If someone wants to volunteer to make it congruent, be my guest, I've done more than 60 hours of work getting Silicon Image this far, and it'll likely be 5+ for this last album.
