Origin 2000 Node Card Configuration and PROM code mismatch
I'm working to restore a 4 Module 16 Node 3x MIPS 10K CPU Origin 2000 system based in a UK museum, that came from a university engineering dept. As they would not give us the root password, we have had to reinstall IRIX, which went fine.
Unfortunately some of the memory modules/CPUs/node boards failed their tests during POST and then a PSU went , and to cut a long story short we swapped some node boards around and got a functioning machine going using just 3 modules, and 12 nodes. After the PSU got replaced with a working one (with the help of Ian at SGIDepot - thanks again!) the 4th module was brought back on line using its one remaining good node, and again the machine worked fine.
During the original swapping of the nodes, the POST reassigned module numbers to the moved nodes automatically - when it was running as a 3 module machine. During this time the PROM code in these 12 boards was also flashed (as part of the reinstall of IRIX 6.5.30)
We have now also got the other node boards fixed (by reducing the memory on one of them), (one came out of each of the other 3 modules), and attempted to put them into the now working 4th module (that works fine with its original node board in). However on starting the machine up, half way through the POST, I get a PROM code panic, due to mismatched node board module IDs, and also mismatched PROM code. It attempts to reassign the module number to the node card, but fails - I can only presume that this is because it does not know which of the two nodes in that module has the correct module ID- from which to assign the other one?
As all of the 3 repaired nodes have different module IDs I cant put two correct ones in to overcome this problem.
I suggests after the panic line, to try reassigning the moduleIDs in the MSC, and then throws me out to POD.
I can easily connect to the MSC on the module that is having the incorrectly assigned module IDs on the newly fixed nodes, however looking through the manuals I can't find a command that will actually manually assign a module ID to the node. I am assuming one I have the moduleIDs correct I should be able to issue a command to copy the PROM code from the master node over to these now repaired nodes as well?
Can anybody help me out with what I'm missing from the manual or the commands to do both of these tasks in MSC/POD?
Best Wishes
James

RE: Origin 2000 Node Card Configuration and PROM code mismatch
Thanks, Yes Ive now realised re the OS, but its nice to have afresh install anyway as the system had basicly been used for random student projects by the end and was in a bit of a mess.
I've had a look throught the quick reference guide before, and the procedure for flashing PROMS is failryl clear. Its the node confirguation that I am at a loos about (or an I just being blind!)
