The SSD should make quite a difference!

Irinikus do you know of any free disk benchmarking software for Tiger? I’ll upload the before and after results here.

I used Xbench 1.3 and a clean install of OS X 10.4.11 for both disk tests. The difference was night and day. Real world performance is twice as fast for file transfer, boot times, opening programs, and the system is just more responsive.

What'd you use for fitting in a SATA adapter + SSD to the drive bay? Be nice to get my PBG4 running on a similar setup Smile

RE: Getting my own PowerPC Mac
I was going to post an Amazon link but the item is no longer available. I just used one of the many mSATA to 2.5 inch IDE converter boards. I got one for like $8 that had good reviews. Already had a 120GB Kingston SSD in my junk drawer. I've been installing lots of stuff and copying over files and there's no heat issues or drops in speed. It's actually more stable than with the HDD.

The space in there is definitely too small for a 2.5 inch SSD plus adapter, unless you take the casing off and void your warranty. So mSATA is the way to go.
