Forum Redesign and Counterplans

RE: Forum Redesign and Counterplans
I'm currently not ready to relaunch any live discussion systems. After the disaster of last time, I don't think the world is quite ready. Should it return, part of it will at least be using matrix. Matrix is better than IRC and healthier. And unlike an IRC server, running matrix servers is not against most hosting providers TOS.

RE: Forum Redesign and Counterplans
I would also prefer a light theme if possible. My main issue with the dark theme is that in threads the title bars are light, but the posts are dark. Similarly, the reply boxes are light - hence there's a strange mixture of light and dark bits everywhere, so it looks a bit disjointed.

Note: Take this as constructive feedback incidentally, not a moan/criticism or anything!

Edit: Just found that if I go to options and change the board style to "BootBB", I get the light theme back. That'll do me!

Yep. The old themes will still work until 1.9 redesign is done by the MyBB team. By that point I intend to have both light and dark themes made from scratch.

Perfect, that's a good workaround for now then. Not knocking the idea of a dark theme incidentally - it's a matter of personal preference after all, and thanks for the continued work here!

Huh, I didn't know that it would be an issue with the hosting provider. Anyhow, what happened last time that made it a disaster? I never saw anything too bad in the Discord in the short time I spent on there. Most users were friendly and helpful.

RE: Forum Redesign and Counterplans
Most hosts do not allow people to run IRC servers or bouncers, which means I'd need to use a third party IRC service, such as we had on rizon.net (#irix) which I ceded, along with the former irixnet discord, to Dodoid and Larbob to run because they didn't want me to delete it. In hindsight, deletion would have been better.

As for what happened, there were many things, many of which I'm not going to bother to get into. You can review older posts by me in "Site Discussion."

Raion, completely unrelated site question just out of general curiosity, how many GB per month does irixnet serve?

RE: Forum Redesign and Counterplans
Some feedback regarding the new dark (=black) theme. Changes like new threads, replies, new messages, et. al are difficult to spot in all this darkness. In my case, usability of the whole forum is heavily limited by this factor. In fact, one of the two main reasons I prefer coming here over sgi sh is precisely its light theme by default. For me, this lightness means positiveness, optimism, it promotes cooperation and sharing, coming together without fear and offering an environment where no one has to hide. Contrast this to a dark theme.

There is actually a whole branch of psychology that studies influence of colors on human behaviour, and black is not precisely associated to "positive" meanings among a majority of people. In that sense, please keep some form of light theme. It's actually very important, at least to me.

Thank you and keep on doing this great job, you are doing really well.

Just wanted to chime in that I really love the new theme. Gives me warm and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia Biggrin
