Hi guys.

I also have 8 Altix 350 modules, but no router. However, I'm sure I have connected all modules together using Numalink cables years ago. Unfortunately, pics of the system were posted on nekochan. I'll have a look and will hopefully find them again. I don't know if this is possible with a mix of Altix and Prism modules, but at least it works with 350 ones ony.
I may also try powering on the system, but it is not connected to 16 Amps plug, so that it may not last very long.

The Altix maintenance guide explains how to numalink nodes with and without a router. Having a router gets you higher interconnect bandwidth (and possibly lower latency; I don't remember right now). You also need a router if you want to connect more than 8 nodes. It works fine with a mix of Altix 350 and Prism nodes, as the Prism is just a 350. The graphics modules have dual AGP slots instead of PCI. You could add a graphics node to your 350 if you wanted to.

I've found the screenshots. Definitely 8 nodes, 16x Madison 9M cache, 1600MHz, 115.3GiB of RAM... without any router. Too bad I don't turn it on more often. I think I didn't for the last 3 years or so.
Be ready to open the windows. Power consumption is too high to allow running it on a single "consumer" outlet.

same for me. I also have a 16 x 1.6GHz machine with 72GB of RAM without a router. No extra storage though. It's nice that it fits into this small Altix rack and I somehow like this big black monster, but I rarely use it. I once measured my system and it draws slightly more than 3000W. A 16A fuse might be "just enough" to run this. I've got 24A, so I am safe here. I like the Itanium machines mostly for their obscurity and I used to login to one some years ago as a student.
