Same problem. You cannot access the Xsession script. BTW, the tfxd logs is from teleffect which is a service for sharing keyboard and mouse between several windows and IRIX systems. It's superseded by Synergy and VNC/rdesktop-like services.

I'm starting to think the IRIX system installation is incomplete or it has been altered by someone. Can you check for access to the Xsession file via:

Just a note that you aren't alone. Same symptoms, same machine, same irix version. Changing the new user's shell to /sbin/csh lets me log in, but the window manager doesn't start (plain 'x' cursor). su works then too for a shell. Amusingly (?) the green flash and return to login phenomena also happens with the guest/demos accounts that were there from the beginning. I probably won't have time to fool with it more until the weekend but will update here if I find a solution.

I am planning on making a backup copy of my bootdisk so I can fiddly some more without worrying I screw up the system.
And yes, for me all the other default 'demo' accounts and such also do not work.

I am a bit baffled about your problems with users not being able to login to the system, until i noticed there is an alias license daemons activated via the chkconfig system.

So was this system already preinstalled with IRIX OS, or did you do this installation yourselves? If former, chances are that the system is altered by the previous owner to only allow certain users to work with that system.

I got my disk pre-installed with all kinds of goodies. Do you have more info on the 'alias license daemon' ?
