I also have one of these, which I will get up and running in due course.

I bought it new from a company in the US, and it came with everything except the interface card, which I will now have to purchase.

I intend on upgrading my Alienware with a QX9770 and fitting this beast, as this was definitely one of the best graphics systems that were available at the time when that system was relevant (It's the same vintage!)

As far as I'm concerned, systems such as the Nvidia Quadro Plex 1000 Model IV were probably some of the last nails in SGI's coffin!

Back in the days when the Quadro Plex was current, I was sporting this little beast in my machine:

The 8800GTX was simply one of the best hardware experiences I've ever had, period! I bought it new when it came out, and it was simply fantastic!

I have mixed feelings about the GeForce 8 range. I loved my GeForce 8800GTS (640MB) right up until the point that it failed after a couple of years due to the bad bump scandal Nvidia had around this time. A pity really, a great chip ruined by shoddy engineering.

My primary desktop is going to be in need of some upgrades rather soon. I built it in 2013 & since then it has received basically no upgrades aside from a GPU upgrade back in around 2015. Specs are as follows:

Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K (Still have yet to overclock this)
RAM: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
Storage: 128GB Crucial SSD & 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 HDD
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
OS: Debian unstable

At this point I'm probably just going to end up building an entirely new system within the next couple of months; I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of this hardware. I'm not even really in a rush to upgrade anything yet because it still does everything that I need it to do but it is getting a little long in the tooth in some regards.

That is still a good board. I'm very meh when it comes to boards / CPUs later than 2013/2014. We recently had some new Z390 systems in for testing and while the i7-8700K and M.2 was nice, they just didn't present enough speed difference to our Z97 with 4790k machines to warrant an upgrade, yet. Suppose it depends what you use it for.

No longer active. Please do not contact me.

It's definitely been a reliable system, that's for sure. It's been running basically nonstop for several years now. I'm not really in all that much of a hurry to build an entirely new machine; I probably won't realistically get around to that for another year or two. I only really notice slowdowns whenever I try to play certain games or render video, which is to be expected. My laptop does a better job at that anyway.
