Today I'm ready to try install IRIX 5.3 with an SCSISD, but first I want make a backup copy of my actual IRIX 4.

Use normal IRIX 5.3, XFS doesn't bring you anything. First releases had serious bugs also.

What you want is the first IRIX 5.3 release, part# 812-0119-006. There were several platform specific releases after that, for Indy or IMPACT graphics and they are not supported on a Crimson.

Would it be correct to say that the 5.3 on the FTP here supports the Crimson or has that version not been uploaded?

there was a version I linked that might be the correct version, I'm not sure, I don't have the part number
