very cool - I didn't realize there was going to be that much of a difference (that translates to a lot more of a difference on slower machines like o2's)

I haven’t run a Blender test on my Indy R4000@200MHz yet, so I might compare these two versions of Blender on this machine, to gauge how this performance difference effects the Blender results on slower machines.

I've just tested Blender 2.49, and unfortunately it's considerably slower, completing "test.blend" using 8 threads and 16x16 tiles in 1 minute 20 seconds and 87 split seconds!
