Floops - the VRML character
Does anyone remember Floops the VRML character?

Back in the days there was a series of short animated VRML comic movies with this guy that SGI did release. I would just love to get ahold of those but yet I had no luck finding them in any archives. Is anyone maybe keeping an old copy?

That's how he looked: http://www.digitalspace.com/avatars/book...oplate.jpg

I was at Cosmo when we were working on Floops. I don’t have a copy anywhere but Jan Mallis was the producer on that project I’m sure she kept something. Try looking her up on LinkedIn maybe?

Here's the wayback machine's "archive" of floops

RE: Floops - the VRML character

This is one of the animatons featuring the character. Appears to be Episode 35 (out of 65 total made according to the SGI VRML page). Scanning all the hits from the page with the Wayback Machine, it seems that several of these episodes are lost cause. Some are missing the WRL, others missing the WAV file played in unison with the animation and/or textures that are hosted on the site. Looks like it won't be long 'till someone calls up the Lost Media Wiki to find the missing content.

This animation, movement wise (I know the visuals look quite dated), is actually not bad for 1996 standards. Looks like some something out of a PlayStation cutscene. I gave this a shot using Cortona3D to view the VRML file in IE and had to use the video's sound as the replacement WAV file since it doesn't exist in the Internet Archive. Even in 60fps, the movements look pretty good. I thought it was gonna be more stiff judging by the image OP shared. It appears they used mo-cap for Floops given how the character sorta shakes around a bit around 0:18-0:21, but that's just my guess.

Doing SGI stuff since the last time we all partied like it's 1999.
