IRIX Wacom driver install step by step

RE: IRIX Wacom driver install step by step
Hi def13, I’ve finally got an original AC adapter so the Wacom is powering up now. Unfortunately I’ve still had no luck in getting the wacom to run. I’ve recorded a video that shows what I’m doing to install the drivers. Would be great if any of you guys could have a look at it and possible point out what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks in advanced!

PS: At the time of writing this the quality of the video was only 360p. I’m assuming the high res version is still converting or something and should be available soon.

Oh I also just found this in one of the download sites.

http://nekofiles.irix.cc/Drivers/tablet/

Seems like there are a few more wacom drivers.

Going to try some of these out.

Yeah no luck with those either. They are mostly just older versions of the same driver.

As far as I remember, this driver is made for Intuos 1 and 2 and it's not the same for Art Pad.
I'm on Irix 6.5.26 and I've installed it on my Octane with my Intuos 1 ; it has taken me 3 minutes to make it works.

EDIT :
I found this about Art Pad on Irix : http://www.fsck.it/html/geek/tips/wacom.html

Apologies for poking on a dead horse, but I just got a Cintiq 18SX for my O2 and I am getting the issues seen in the YouTube video regarding 4.8.0. I tried the fsck.it Art Pad instructions, but everything stops with getting 4.7.2, because that gzip is corrupted probably due to the copy stored in nekofiles was downloaded in ASCII instead of binary when grabbed from the Wacom FTP while it was still up. I tried gzrt on it, but the extracted result's sorta malformed and byte-shifted about. If anyone has a correct copy of 4.7.2 to get its control panel, please contribute.

This should be the correct tarball for the Wacom 4.7.2 driver : https://tudl1910.home.xs4all.nl/Wacom/Wa...7.2.tar.gz

Thanks for the file. Installed the control panel, but it only dropped one file. TabCP-En.znc. The fsck instructions say to now run /usr/sbin/wacom, but I don't have that. Maybe it's expecting me to extract the wacom.tar via swmgr somehow but I don't want swmgr to follow the installation scripts. I just need the tar from the product and manipulate everything manually.

Ok, managed to copy over the wacom.tar mid-install and then uninstall. Have to start from square one with reinstalling optional input devices from Overlays 1 and re-configuring X11 input config, but I did get the control panel (wacomcpl-6.5_3 for MIPS3 or wacomcpl-6.5_4 for MIPS4). Unfortunately, I still get the "Could not initialize the Driver Interface" error even with this version. Oddly enough, the 4.7.2 package popped up a license manager window first asking me where's my Wacom device and it didn't seem to recognize it (probably since I didn't set the serial port to be a Wacom device first?). 4.8.0 didn't spring up any license manager. Maybe the latter doesn't require a license? But for either version, I'm ending up with that Driver Interface issue.

RE: IRIX Wacom driver install step by step
Good news it seems I inched a bit further with the installation. I had to re-install everything and used a "wacom" config file from an old Nekochan post.

Code:
device_init {
left        "10160"
right       "10160"
top         "10160"
bottom      "10160"
}

x_init {
scale                  "fit"
scalewhich             "none"
scalex                 "1024/30480"
scaley                 "1024/30480"
scale0                 "1024/30480"
scale1                 "1024/30480"
pushpointer            "on"
autostart              "on"
relative               "on"
dblclickstylus         "1,25"
dblclickpuck           "1,25"
tipbutton              "3"
sidebutton             "1"
t+sbutton              "0"
ssbutton               "2"
eraserbutton           "2"
pressuremode           "on"
tippressure            "30"
eraserpressure         "30"
pressurecurve          "0,62,126,190,254"
puckbtn1               "2"
puckbtn2               "1"
puckbtn3               "4"
puckbtn4               "3"
wacpushx               "0"
wacpushy               "1"
wacpushp               "2"
wacpushxt              "5"
wacpushyt              "6"
wacpushz               "7"
invert                 "!xy0123456789"
}

It seems the commercial 4.8.0 driver does not ask for a license after all unlike the older versions. Anyway I did get the pointer to move with my pen but only for a few seconds. It seems wacomd is pretty garbage and quits after a few seconds. Right as I log in and the pen works, it stops working and i still get the familiar "Could not initialize the Driver Interface" error when trying to initialize the cpl. It did at one point show a "Getting Started" screen but it hung shortly after, maybe when wacomd died. This is quite some progress, but I still have to experiment what if I also don't use the commercial driver and just rely on optinput and maybe just using the 4.7.2 cpl. Nvm, it seems you need the driver files for the tablet to activate. For now, it's just a matter to make wacomd stop quitting itself.

RE: IRIX Wacom driver install step by step
Even greater news, I got the drivers to work perfectly now. It seems the install expects you to have the tablet connected to serial port 1 when it's normally for terminal. No need to associate any of the ports as a Wacom port, nor you need a wacom config file in X11 input config.

So here's how I got it to install and work correctly on my O2:
1. Make sure eoe optinput is installed and restart.
2. Go to the Serial Device Manager and delete each port association to ensure they're all available.
3. Connect the Wacom tablet serial to port 1.
4. Install the Wacom 4.8.0 driver and restart.
5. Once you get to the log-on screen, you should see the cursor move in tandem with your pen.
6. Log in to your user account and proceed to calibrate the pen through the control panel.

Thanks Jacknet for sharing this info with us! I've tried this on my octane but still no luck. Can you give us some further information regarding your setup?
1. Which irix version are you using?
2. At the end is the eoe optinput driver from the foundation 1 cd needed to get this to work?
3. which wacom model are you using?

Thanks,
T

1. This has been tested in 6.5.30 on my O2.
2. optinput comes from foundation 1. In my case, the software manager did ask me to have overlay 1 alongside foundation 1 to install it.
3. My Wacom is the Cintiq 18SX. It came out in 2003, so my steps mostly apply to just 6.5. I have not tested 6.2 or 5.3.
