Most of the restrictions can be found in the SGI Hardware FAQ, Q10 ... Q14
The listed chip numbers are my observation, hope it helps someone but no guarantees. You can still find this type of memory quite easily on eBay.

It was mostly a rather tedious, but necessary exercise. I had the system apart and the spares at hand, plus I bought a box of compatible SIMMs not so long ago so now was the time. I used up a lot of cotton swabs ...
