My corrected cable works, I am now able to issue commands to the machine and have set the output to screen and the input to keyboard.

Just confirm that the machine needs to have a keyboard connected to give a graphical output?

The machine seems to be incompatible with the USB keyboard that I have though. The manual states that you need a SUN type 6 keyboard to run the machine, is this the only type of keyboard that will work?
