turn on the indigo2, make sure it turns on, a little chime should happen, and the green led on the front should be on

without a monitor is tricky, but assuming it actually boots all you need to do is hook up your laptop directly to the indigo2 via network/rj45 cable. Change the IP address of your laptop to be on the same network as the indigo2 (or example - say the indigo2 ip is 10.0.0.2, make your laptop 10.0.0.3 - this is hoping nothing really silly is going on with the netmask)

If that doesn't work your going to have to get a console cable
