i also tried hacknoid recently with octane/v6 and it was similar image on the lcd, sort of half split screen
so i am not sure if there is some special display configuration in display config required and what monitors can be used for stereo?
The monitors compatible with stereo are all listed on Reputable Systems' accurate monitor database.
The older ones (particularly the "Single Sync" models) display the same number of lines at the same H.frequency whether or not stereo is used. Stereo mode simply inserts a vertical retrace in the middle of each frame, which is why you see a "sort of half split screen" on incompatible monitors. This is called STR_RECT, STR_TOP, or STR_BOT mode. The pixel aspect ratio is stretched because pictures of 1280x492 pixels are being displayed on a nominally 1280x1024 screen.
Newer multisync displays that support higher Horizontal sync rates can use the so-called "quad buffer" graphics modes that keep square pixels. Octane supports 1024x768_96s and some others: you can see them all using setmon(1M) or the Display Preferences panel.
