Before the antitrust judgment against Ma Bell, you had to rent your telephone. OK, if they were more clever, they would have called it a subscription to a "forever" telephone but it's obviously the same thing, no matter what newspeak is used. With "Cloud" software and "subscriptions" for option packages in cars, the economy is circling back to the old rentier-capitalism mode of accumulation.
