I took an old 24" Samsung S24F356FH monitor (24" 1920x1080, HDMI + VGA inputs), it works great with Indigo 2. My much more modern AOC has absolute no image

Did you check the refresh rate? Many, many modern SOG-capable/tolerant monitors have hard refresh rate caps of 60Hz, while SGI's default to 75hz.

If that's the problem, you can change the video mode using the video tool, reboot, and switch to the nicer monitor.

PS -- If you have Impact graphics, you can also use a custom vfo file to get a 1080p/60Hz output (probably ... it requires running the Impact at very close to its pixel clock limits and some monitors are finicky).
