MetroCel Animation Studios
MetroCel was a branch of MetroLight Studios. Not much is known about MetroCel specifically because it didn’t last very long. However, it has historical significance because it provided the digital ink and paint services for Nickelodeon’s “The Ren & Stimpy Show” during the early 1990s. Ren & Stimpy was actually the first television cartoon to go through the digital coloring process.

They were a pretty cheap studio despite the use of computers. The Ren & Stimpy cartoons that went through MetroCel have quite a few jarring camera and animation mistakes.

I’ve been wondering, what computers would’ve been used to do the digital ink and paint work at MetroCel? Is it possible that SGI workstations were used?
