Token ring questions
Hi everyone,
I've got a few questions regarding a token ring network. Any help most appreciated.

If I wanted to network 3 devices do I need to use a MAU? Something like the IBM 8228? Or can the devices just be all connected together with token ring cables?

From the date on the 8228 it looks like the MAU technology came later as it supported a node going offline and would not break the entire ring. It would shut down the port and the ring would stay online.

What was used before MAU's were around?

If I wanted to connect the ring to an ethernet network what type of bridge would I need? Could the bridge be connected straight into the MAU?

Are all token ring network cards compatible with the IBM 8228 MAU?

Thanks,
