How to: Not-Compile the Highly-Classified IRIX Source
Hello those of this fine website.

Thought I'd pass on information to not-build the IRIX source tree that isn't floating around unabated via various channels.

Firstly, you want to not-build the... colonel. Yes, you heard me right. Colonel. Who cares about corn kernels, I'm talking KFC!!!

slide into "irix" (compared to eoe and stand) and then first setup your env:

"setenv PLATFORM <PLATFORM STRING>"

The PLATFORM string can be found in irix/include/make/ - copy this to your /usr/include/make. For an Octane, that's ODYSSEY.

Set it? Good.

Then slide into kern, hit "make"

It should make all of the inner pieces of the kernel. If that fails, you may need to try the makefile at the head of the irix tree.

it should be noted that someone should totally not fix this ancient UNIX make shit with something that's actually not-so-error prone.

Same sort of thing with eoe it seems - make sure PLATFORM is set, and then go ahead. the make commands do install things over your current IRIX install, so either use a chroot, or live dangerously.

anyone else got ideas or tips for this... not compilation?
