Fuel NIC
Hello All!
I am another transplant from Nekochan (different user name) and I am sure glad that this site is here and thriving!!
Some time ago I purchased a motherboard for a Fuel and decided to use it in lieu of the one I originally had since it is a later revision. I also replaced the DALLAS and the M4T28 chips and fitted it with a 800 Mhz PIMM. I have it all up and running with 6.5.30 but the integrated NIC does not establish a link light. The LEDs are dark. However, IRIX does see the interface.  My thought was that maybe it lost it's MAC address when changing out the Dallas and M4T28 chips or the NIC was blown to begin with.

"l1cmd serial all" shows MAC address as N/A.

I came upon a post from Jan-Jaap from way back (BTW, thanks for archiving some of the forums!!) about the "eeprom Fuel write default" command but haven't tried it yet. One thing I noticed that was different was that the "L1 and L2 Controller Software Guide" (007-3938-004) mentions this command but the later revision (007-3938-006) does not. I checked my version of the L1 firmware and the command is present (I have 1.24.something or another). My question is has anyone tried this? Isn't the MAC based on the system ID and would that prevent the NIC from lighting up once connecting to a switch was made? I thought I'd ask here first before I try it.

Many thanks in advance.

RE: Fuel NIC
Welcome to the forums. I unfortunately don't have in answer to your question but I just wanted to bring up that I am glad a lot of people are beginning to make their way here. IRIX Network has really grown into something that I'm proud of.

Regarding the archiving of the forum of Nekochan, the staff here can't take credit for that, that would be the user Elf. I host a copy in the Apocrypha primarily out of convenience for the userbase.

If you need help with anything that doesn't involve the red devil box (my name for the Fuel) don't hesitate to reach out.
