PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
Ok I received my monitor cable. found some old ps2->usb dongles plugged in keyboard and mouse but octane will not detect them. I tried 2 different mouse and 2 different keyboard. is there any requirements needed to be filled for the ps2 adaptors to work? look like they came with old Logitech mouse/keyboard.

RE: PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
My experience with these adapters is not that good. I think that support must be built in to the device (keyboard/mouse) for the arrangement to work, and most modern devices simply do not support them at all. I do recall connecting a couple of Logitech mice way back then to those green dongles, but it was a very long time ago. I never managed to connect a keyboard to those. That is however my experience.

I was thinking this would be the case that you needed adaptor that came with the device way back when you needed them.
The best thing would simply be an adapter that would take usb wireless mouse and keyboard and convert to ps2

I've had the same experiences on both my O2 and my Tezro, using the pink and green standard USB>Ps2 adapters just don't work at all. Had to find a more descriptive PS2 adapter like mentioned above.

RE: PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
ok so i bought moused / keyboard with ps2 dongle included. But system seems to lockup when trying to move the moused. keyboard not responding. but it boots without fail.
Is there some setup needed or something?

Is the keyboard at least recognized at the PROM menu? Can you type commands at the system monitor (F5 option at PROM menu)? Can you share the brand/model of the keyboard and mouse combo?

the keyboard is working in windows with the ps2 dongle. he name no clue it just say ps2 and usb keyboard on it. and imported by Claes Olsson from china.
i was thinking if there is some prom command to make it recognize the baud or something. The moused works in prom but not in system.

ok booting without keyboard and plugging in makes it possible to use but Mose stop working

RE: PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
I am afraid I am unable to visualize the arrangement. I am not sure if you have two adapters (one for each device) or just one (shared between devices), or what happens at PROM when you have the keyboard connected :(

For what it is worth, I do not believe there is a specific command to configure the keyboard from within PROM, but I may be mistaken. That also implies the keyboard should be working at that stage so I am not sure what might be left to be configured by then.

I would not recommend plugging and unplugging the connectors with the machine up and running. It may be an unnecessary precaution, but these things are starting to get old and delicate, it may be best not to try ones luck.

If you are uncertain of how to configure the setup then I would advise procuring a simpler PS/2 keyboard and mouse. They can still be procured very cheap and you would have one less layer of difficulty and uncertainty. I for one have had good experiences with SGI granite keyboards (duh!), Cherry PS/2 keyboards and at least one Benq PS/2 keyboard. The last two types you can get for really cheap on eBay or similar places.

RE: PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
Problem is I can only find ps/2 mouse and keyboard for 100euro and then it come with mousepad and is English and not Swedish.
the setup is 1 keyboard 1mouse 2passive ps2 adaptors that came with each one. keyboard does not work in prom so I run that with the serial connector to my iMac for force booting the machine when unplugging the keyboard and mouse. when I was in the warehouse today I saw a broken ps2 keyboard. thinking maybe I bring that one home to test (Missing keys.) But something with compatibility is messing the communication upp. because it works perfectly on the pc from 2014.

RE: PS/2 keyboard/mouse Octane
I used some random PS/2 keyboards on my Octane, they all worked, but mice are a bit more complicated. I had a microsoft mouse, I think, which always freezed the Octane for 3-4 seconds when I pressed the wheel button. That annoyed me to no end for months!!! Nowhere was an explanation for that, or anyone who experienced the same ... then I finnally found out, that it was the mouse itself the whole time Rolleyes
Now I use a cheap Genuis Netscroll 120, which just works.
