mediad drops the CD drive
I don't know when this started happening but at some point after I updated my O2 to 6.5.29 a few years ago I noticed that shortly after boot and login or within the timeframe of ten minutes after such the CD drive would vanish off the desktop and things like automounting, autoplaying and the likes stopped working. I can still however manually mount the drive to /CDROM and work with the contents of a disc co the CD drive is still working but it's very frustrating to keep having it fall off the radar like this, moreso if I had a disc inserted when it vanished because it locks the drive and I have to manually unmount and eject it.
I have visually watched the icon vanish as mediad presumably died but I cannot find any errors in the system log. I don't understand.

RE: mediad drops the CD drive
probably nowhere near the issue, but I would verify mediad is chkconfig'd on, check the /etc/config/mediad.config file, and maybe /etc/config/mediad.options

Is it the original o2 drive? They are all pretty much dying right about now so I wouldn't rule out a faulty drive either
