DALLAS DS1386 replacement?
Hi, I'm a new member here but I've been an SGI/IRIX fan for a while. My Indy that I have been using for a few years has now refused to boot up and the serial port output confirms that it's the Dallas RTC/NVRAM chip.

What I'm wondering is where to source a replacement? I've ordered one from China on eBay, listed as 'new', but I doubt it's genuine: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273089915272

I notice that some hobbyists have now started producing their own replacements. Glitch Works makes the GW-1742W and various other replacement. However, I dont't see any replacement for the DS1386, which is what the Indy uses.

Can anyone advise me on this? Has anyone had luck with the eBay chips from China and is there any hobbyists making replacements for the DS1386?

Glitch is working on a 1386 replacement. It’s been a while since he first announced it, but it’s similar to his other replacement modules (instead of the battery hats he offers). Hopefully that will be available soon as I need a couple for my Indy and Challenge S.

That's good to hear. Hopefully the eBay one that I ordered will work as a stopgap.
