Yeah, it's a bit of a surprise - I would never have expected Sun of all companies to have a serious 3D offering, but there we go. I'll definitely be watching this with interest.

I've also thought the same thing, but I've never seen a V890z before though.

I think that the Fireplane differed in such a way that it couldn't be fitted with an XVR-4000. (I stand to be corrected in this though.)

My DVI to VGA adaptor doesn't fit the SUN cable, so I ordered the correct adaptor from a computer shop down the road and should hopefully have it tomorrow!

This is just never ending, it feels to me like I'm having to go from one counter to the next to the next... in a nightmare, where the person at the counter always seems to need a piece of paper or a particular stamp on a piece of paper, that I just don't seem to have! :(

I have the SOLARIS 10 DVD in the DVD-ROM, so how do I go about getting solaris on this beast? (I'm completely ignorant here, as this is the first SUN computer that I've used ever!)

Rad, sir! As far as getting Solaris on that sucker, you can try <B>boot cdrom</B> and see what happens - if all goes well it should blurb at you a bit and then kick you into the graphical installer.

Holy shit, 48GB of RAM...what do you plan on doing with this beast?

I was luckily in the position to max the system out when I bought it, and the RAM wasn't that expensive.

The six CPU's and 48GB of ram only cost me 450 UKP, the Chassis was expensive though, as it was new in box.

I would like to do some 3d-rendering on the machine if possible, and run some benchmarks so that I can compare it to my Onyx2 and Tezro machines. (It would be interesting to see how they compare!)
