So long Mr Monitor - Trippynet - 02-23-2019

Well, my beloved 28" ViewSonic monitor has finally bit the dust and died. It was 12 years old (so served me very well), but it's annoying as nobody makes 28" 16:10 displays any more, and I hate 16:9 screens. The fact that it supported SoG was a bonus as well. I'm currently using an old HP 24" 16:10 monitor from the loft (acquired 2 of these free from work - always knew they'd come in handy some day). It's a nice screen, but feels so small when you are used to a 28" display.

Anyway, I've just splashed out on a Dell UP3017 - 30" 16:10 2560x1600 display. Not sure if it supports SoG, but seeing as I usually run my SGIs from a secondary 20" Dell screen, it's not a major concern. I'm thankful that there are still a few large 16:10 manufacturers out there - even if the screens aren't cheap!

Well you can buy 1:1 displays too:

EIZO does manufacture 16:10 displays past 24" (although they do have quite a bit of 24" ones):

That 1:1 screen is interesting, haven't seen anything like that before!

I think I'll have to pass on the Eizo 30" screen. As lovely as it looks, it does have a list price of ‎$13,790.00. I think my wife may have something to say if I dropped that kind of money on a monitor Smile

EIZO screens haven't supported SOG for a while now (except some of the specialty monitors maybe); a major reason I've switched to NEC.

NEC and EIZO are both big on hardware calibrated screens.
