I guess nobody has tried this.  Can someone provide the PCI ID for the SGI dual port copper version of the Silicom PXG2 card?  I was about to start working on this myself.  Thanks.

I've seen some hacks around for this I've been meaning to add to the wiki.

If you are able to find those it would sure beat doing it from scratch!

There are two way to do this: with ethtool in Linux or with the Broadcom manufacturer's diagnostics software.

Using ethtool you can overwrite parts or all of the EEPROM on the card and change the identity. The problem is there's a checksum on it and the MAC addres is in there too. Duplicate MAC addresses is a disaster so you can't do a full clone, and end up with EEPROM checksum errors (IRIX doesn't seem to care though).

The clean way is using the special Broadcom software. I occasionally do this as a commercial service, mostly for the dual gigE cards, so don't ask me for the software or the recipe. I also upgrade to card firmware and run a full manufacturing test on the cards.

I have done batches for a friendly price for the hobbyist crowd back in the Nekochan days as well.
