Octane Power Supply - 23jodys - 12-21-2018
I was trying to compile some things on my Octane2. In the middle, the system just immediately powered off. Now the system makes a relay click sound when I plug it into wall power, but otherwise the power button do nothing. No LED, no fan noise. Removing the PCI card cage, hard drives does not change anything.
Does anyone know anything else to try other than replacing the power supply?

I just got an Octane in the mail and have the exact same issue (relay click, fan for a portion of a second, then nothing). Very curious to hear what folks have to say.
Further to this question, the Octane Owner's Manual troubleshooting guide says to "check the LEDs on the small power supply." What is the "small power supply"?

I've not heard of the Small Power Supply!? There are several small daughter pcbs in psu, take the cover off and connect the power plug. Just for God's sake don't touch any contacts while you have the covers off, there are some big caps in there!!!
My psu blew a few months ago, mine wouldn't even get past the input circuit.

The power supplies have a tendency to fail but I don't know what the failure is, but I would guess capacitors.

sounds like the same thing when my octane PSU went bad. I do wish someone with the skillset can post a repair guide - I opened my octane PSU once and it looked like the most complex PSU I have ever seen...

Repair guides are easier if there are common faults to look for. Octane power supplies tend to be reliable compared to Fuels. I don't see anything obvious from the posted pictures. As someone else mentioned there is a small standby supply that is always powered. You'd have to trace the incoming power and maybe look at some chip datasheets to find which board it is. Bad capacitors don't always bulge or leak either. Sometimes they just dry out. New caps should be <$20 so you might as well replace them all while the thing is apart. The other difficulty is even trying to test it on a bench. You'll need a dummy load and figure out how to enable it.
I briefly fixed a Fuel power supply before it died again. Now that thing is a complete mess. It should have never been built into an ATX style enclosure. All I can say is its 10 pounds of shit inside a 5 pound box.

Have anybody whose Octane PSU is still alive managed to compile a pinout or at least partially check voltages on both connectors?

My octane has a bad motherboard but the whole thing is still apart. I'll see about firing it up and getting some voltages.

The connectors alone don't supply all the voltage. The prongs on the frontplane provide HV (IIRC 24V) rails for some systems.
