Modern Web Browser on Solaris Sparc? -
darkhelmet02 - 11-12-2018
I use the default Firefox that comes with Solaris 10 sparc on my sun blade, but is there any modern browser I can use to get on more modern websites, like Github?

I am in the same boat. I have not tried these but I think there are some semi-recent versions of Firefox compiled for the sparc64 port of debian,

https://cdn-aws.deb.debian.org/debian-ports/pool-sparc64/main/f/firefox/
as well as NetBSD/OpenBSD.

Awesome, I haven't come across those versions compiled for Debian!

Shame that Oracle isn't keeping Solaris 10 Sparc up to date anymore...

Well hot dang. I wonder if there's any significant impediments to building these on Solaris 9?

I had most of these packages pending to be checked, so I have little to no futher additional info. Most releases from 52 upwards will most likely not work on Solaris 10 due to missing dependencies (I think Rust is the most significant one, but there would be others). See, for instance:

http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2018/07/another-one-bites-rust.html
Most modern releases do require Solaris 10, though, I do not believe that they would run under Solaris 8 or 9. See:
http://unixpackages.com/packages/mozilla/
Besides Debian, I swear I have seen a more recent version of Firefox (60-ish) running on NetBSD, but I cannot for the life of me find it anymore.
