Indigo 6.5 install - won't boot? -
massiverobot - 11-09-2018
After fixing some issues with my SCSI2SD v6 I went thru a complete Irix 6.5.22 install, no errrors, rebooted at the end and now when it comes back up it can't find the kernel (/unix) - what happened?
I have lot of experience in linux/Grub fixing this but what magic didn't happen to my boot disk to cause this failure? Is there a way to see the drive and boot by hand?
Ugh, I still can't attach images to my posts---

Attachments are known to be broken please use an external image host. This is not a high priority fix because it isn't something being caused server-side and thus absolutely nothing can be done from our end fix the issue because it's an upstream problem.

Can you post the content of 'printenv' in the PROM console?
Plus, are you sure the SCSI2SD is at id 1? 'hinv' should confirm that

That looks like the right info to me- at least for the disk ID1. Is the unix on partition 8?

So I set the SCSI2SD to ID2, since it's in the middle bay.
Went thru the whole install process again and it same problem - this time for 0/2/0/8 again- it can't find unix.
Is there a step in the installation process I'm skipping?

You could try resetenv..?

You're running the V6 SCSI2SD, aren't you? I have no experience with the V6 but make at least sure you're running the latest firmware with "enable parity = on" and "enable SCSI2 = on"
Try installing it without the tape unit.

Yes, V6. It has the latest firmware and I've enabled Parity and SCSI2 as the others have done with previous versions of the SCSI2SD.
I have a new spinning HD coming in the mail from ebay and I'll do a test on that and see if it's the SCSI2SD v6 that is the issue.

everything appears to be correct in PROM, I wonder if there is something wrong with the actual /unix kernel. Very strange

It looks like the SCSI2SD report itself to the PROM as a removable device with no media loaded. Can you check in the SCSI2SD configuration if there is any setting causing it to report itself as removable?
