Tranquility? - BackPlaner - 11-01-2018

This was always my favorite game on SGI, actually one of my favorite games of all time. Originally it was COFF only but I have a version that will run on later Hardware, is anyone interested in it? Checked the FTP site and didn't see it anywhere.

I had never heard of the game, but I found a youtube video and it looks...intriguing. I think I could use a copy for, you know, research purposes.

In any event, it sounds as it could use being preserved somehow.

I will keep an eye on the thread (the other one is presently set on the Quake thread recently posted, I too ran into the same problems trying to run that one).

OK, I uploaded both versions (5.2 and 6.5) to incoming, hopefully we will see them live here soon!

megarat has both binaries on his site: http://www.megarat.com/indigo/#fun

RE: Tranquility? - dexter1 - 11-02-2018

While looking for the Tranquility binary, i found something extra in my archive:
Code:
orcus:/tmp> gztar xvf /home/sgi/tranquility-2.x_source.tar.gz
x TQ-2.x/Makefile, 769 bytes, 2 blocks
x TQ-2.x/aifflib.c, 22081 bytes, 44 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/aifflib.h, 2073 bytes, 5 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/audio.h, 9616 bytes, 19 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/font.h, 23879 bytes, 47 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/help.h, 907 bytes, 2 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/reuse.h, 1052 bytes, 3 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/sound.h, 556 bytes, 2 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/star.h, 97299 bytes, 191 blocks
x TQ-2.x/include/tq.h, 5221 bytes, 11 blocks
x TQ-2.x/main.c, 44924 bytes, 88 blocks
x TQ-2.x/sound.c, 4709 bytes, 10 blocks
This seems to be the source code for the irix 6.5 binary, minus the sound files, but these can be obtained through the tarballs of the executable. Courtesy of Marcus Herbert aka Rhoenie.
I should package this properly Smile
BTW it uses irisGL and ALsound so it's pretty SGI-locked and will run only on the IRIX desktop, you can't send the X window to a non irisGL/DGL capable server, like Linux systems.

irisGL can be ported to openGL but that's a bit of work.

oooo can you post that source?

also that megarat site is pretty neat - too bad so many links are dead now... sort of sad, I remember when they all used to be up :(
