Missing sash - ha0124 - 10-14-2018

I've just installed Irix 6.5 and then the overlay to 6.5.11 on to a blank disk on an Origin 2000 system, but for some reason even following the online instructions it seems to not put sash in the room of the OS drive. Everything else is there, but I just cant boot off the HDD.

I'm guessing I'm missing something, but can't figure out what!

It sounds like you're first installing IRIX 6.5 then installing IRIX 6.5.11 at a later moment in time. Are you?

IRIX 6.5.11 first overlay CD contains sash and a miniroot to install your origin 2000 system with 6.5.11 directly. Use that CD to install the system, then open from the inst prompt the CD's in this order:

IRIX 6.5.11 installation tools and overlay 1 of 3
IRIX 6.5.11 Overlay 2 of 3
IRIX 6.5.11 Overlay 3 of 3
IRIX 6.5 Foundation 1
IRIX 6.5 Foundation 2
IRIX 6.5 Development Foundation
IRIX 6.5 Development Libraries
IRIX 6.5.11 Applications

This should give you a good default IRIX installation on your system

Yes I installed 6.5 first then upgraded to 6.5.11 with the overlay disks.

I assumed that it would install correctly just using 6.5 but that would not boot on it's own either.

I also have the 6.5.30 overlay disks. Can I do what ypu suggested with those instead of using the 6.5.11 disks?

I'm assuming that 6.5 on it's own does not support my hardware?
