What synthesizers do you own? - micrex22 - 09-30-2018

Since everyone here also tends to have audio equipment in combination with a bunch of esoteric computer hardware (oh man, computers + synthesizers are an expensive hobby to simultaneously get in) I thought it would be fun to see who has what.

Synths I own: And I think that's all of them? Few anecdotes--I got an UltraProteus over a Morpheus due to the patches, Keith Zizza used it in Lords of Magic and I wanted some of the presents used in there. I prefer the Jupiter-4 over the Jupiter-8 due to its unique sound and strange characteristics, its random arpeggio is to die for--I consider it like Roland's minimoog. The JV-1080s still have sounds which can knock the socks off of anything made today, especially when fully expanded. A lot of influential video game and movie sound tracks use these modules--to anyone who says they sound horrible, they have a very poor ear and don't know how to mix and master tracks very well. The TG-77 (or any of the TG series) don't seem to come up often, probably the first (and only) synthesizer I've owned which comes with a numpad--the interface is very odd and could have been built better. I'd say it's easier to use the JV-1080's limited display... at least the controls on the JV are laid out nicely. I mainly got the TG-77 due to Allister Brimble (and possibly Paul Weir) owning one--because there are some very nice ROMpler patches in that thing, I wasn't really after the FM synthesis portion since I already have an FS1R.

Presently they're all in storage being moved https://i.imgur.com/IpNr0lV.jpg
Kind of sucks not being able to use my JV-1080s :(

I still have Yamaha TX81Z FM Tone Generator. One day I will hook it up again to my Akai MX73 MIDI Master Keyboard and Atari ST Smile

Don't have many, but I own a Korg Monologue (blue) and a Roland JV-1080 (along with the SR-JV80-11 Techno Expansion, which has some lovely pads).

I also have an Akai S3000XL sampler (which I really need to learn a bit better), an M-AUDIO Venom (Virtual Analog synth which I mostly use as a MIDI keyboard these days, and is severely yellowed :/ ) and a Korg Volca Bass which I never use. I also have a Roland TR-8 drum machine and an Alesis QuadraVerb Plus Effects Processor as well.

EDIT: QuadraVerb 2 -> QuadraVerb Plus (sorry heh)

Hah, I was wondering when this side of the community was going to rear its head again Smile I should probably update my signature, it's quite a bit out-of-date... I...think that's everything...? Though I'm probably going to end up buying back my old Mk. 1 DX7 from the guy I traded it to. And it won't be the first time, either. I should probably stop getting rid of it.

I've got forum sectional overhaul coming over the next few days. Greatly changed from Nekochan and we're going to add stuff like this

Roland D50, Roland JD800, Yamaha D7, Korg Trinity, Korg Triton, Korg Wavestation sr, Korg O3R/w. I guess people that like computers also are int Synth. I do have a audio engineering degree and worked in a studio before.

Very short list for me:

- Roland MT-32 (old, no headphones)
- Roland SC-55 (first version non General Midi, with "GS standard" logo)

Both are connected to my Sharp X68000 XVI Smile

I've got a bunch of soft synths (VSTs), but I've also got a Gakken SX-150. Does that count? Biggrin

Great thread! Indeed I have been doing music on the side for many years. Synths come and go, but here is a picture of my current setup.
