SunPCi III causing solaris to reboot -
mosca - 07-28-2025
I recently got my hands on a Sun PCi IIIpro (375-3203) but when I try to boot / install an OS on it, my machine reboots every time.
I can get into the PCi IIIpro bios, play around, but as soon as it tries to look for the boot device it crashes and restart solaris.
Has anyone expereiced this before? This is on Solaris 10 with as many recent patches as I could get my hands on.
(Yes, I have patched the SunPCi software to work around the date issue)

That's a PCI expansion board, right? What happens if you take it out and boot?

SunPCi is a PC-compatibility card running a x86 processor.

Oh yeah! I remember some of our Suns had those, you could run Windows in a window on the Sun desktop. Not sure anyone of us ever used it for anything though, we all had Windows PCs in our cubes. I remember the day they took my Octane away and plunked down a Sun in its place, I had to cry myself to sleep that night...
