Indigo2 serial connection problems -

Hi
I'm trying to get access to my Indigo2 using a USB > Serial connection. I've connected Rx, Tx & Ground (to Serial 1 on the Indigo2) and trying to establish connection using PuTTy on Win, but I just get this kind of output when it starts up:
5%åë¿u#5y!%%=#7¿e!#-!ëëåa-!#¿y½Þ¯ë¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿[##-#1¿!5!#¿7-=1#!-9£££åëåëy½ÞTO£¤iZ¿5#¿;=)¿9!#7--!#¿!#¿5'¿!£åë^O¤¤º¿!5#¿-75!¯¿3!!åë^O¤¤º¿!5#¿5%åë¿u#5y!%%=#7¿e!#-!ëëåa-!#¿ççhgÞìïïïAïã§ïwg
I've tried different character set encoding in PuTTy but it seems to make no difference.
Any ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks

What is your USB-Serial adapter? What speed and format have you set?

It's a CH340G based adaptor (
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B7RHPMT7)
Baud rate: 9600
Bits: 8
Parity: N
Stop bits: 1
Software flow control (aka XON/XOFF): off
Hardware flow control (aka RTS/CTS or DSR/DTR/DCD): off
Thanks

I suspected as much:
Quote:USB-TTL adapter
That is not a real RS-232 adapter, and will not work with any RS-232 port on any device.
