Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone involved in getting this site going. Like many of you I also miss Nekochan, but it's current hiatus and this sites' existence actually inspired me to try and get Softimage 4.0 running again on my old O2 R12K. After much ftping, license wrangling, and general head bashing, I finally got it to work. Brought back a lot of good memories and made me glad that I keep my old SGIs going. (I also have a R4400 Indigo Elan as well in pretty good shape). Thanks one and all!

Awesome!
Your 1600sw backlight looks in much better condition than mine, I think mine is about to die...it's very dark and faded.

Hmmm, did you try the gamma? I set mine to 1.1 in the Flat Panel CP and it helped immensely.

Yes, you can set the softimage resolution from the softimage.400 file.. see the thread on this.

I've actually used the ColorLock that comes withe the FP card, it gets the colo[u]rs right but makes the display quite dark.

Finally got it working after banging my head against the wall for a bit. Couldn't figure out why it wasn't working for hours until I randomly tried using a capital "X" instead of a small x between 1600X1024 and suddenly, success!

Another tweek I made to my softimage was to make the background behind the buttons black like you see in most pictures. You can do this by opening the .desktop file (going by memory) /user/softimage/soft3d/3d/rcrs... (please correct me if I’m wrong) and open the desktop.col file. The desktop file contains all the colours for all elements of the interface. I think it’s called buttonback that is the background. Setting the Color to 0,0,0, makes it black.
IMPORTANT.. makes sure you create a copy of any file you change in case you mess something up. I always create a copy, and also write down my changes in case I have to go back. I found the desktop colours was somewhat a trial and error venture in understanding the terminology of each interface element.
