Discreet Logic Application versions and release dates -

I cant find anything on the net that illustrates the various packages (i.e. Flame and smoke) versions and release dates. Since finding system requirements for these packages is almost impossible, the release dates can give you an idea of which machine configuration the package would have been intended for i.e. Octane or Octane 2.
My question is, any idea what the timing would be for Flame 4, 7, 9 and smoke 5, 7 ect. I did find an article about Discreet upgrades (Flame 7.6) that was dated Jan 2002.
I want to make sure I source the correct version of Flame/Smoke that will work with the Octane 1 MXE and not the Vpro/DM2. So a version from 1999-2001.

the later the version the better - you want to use flame2008
edit: of course, there is nothing stopping you from having multiple version installed, but they all pretty much look the same, only difference is flame >= 9.5 was 64bit only, so the sparks plugins were 64bit also (and older ones don't work). Sort of a pain because I haven't seen too many 64bit plugins available, so when I play with flame I have a 32bit and 64bit version installed

installed flame 2008sp6 and when started I get an error that says
Error initializing stone Fs.
I have a 250gig media video raid that I want to use as the stone. How do I add the stone file system to that volume?

ok well, that's gonna be the tricky part, read through
https://forums.irix.cc/thread-268.html, specifically a breakdown of the steps is here

edit: and I can't speak of how successful your going to be with the "250gig media video raid" device, we are sort of collectively still trying to figure out to make multi-disk stonefs's (its all in that page 10 of that thread I linked). Might be a good idea to just start with a single disk, make sure you can make it a stonefs, and be able to log into flame - then move onto multi-disk setups
