This has subsided for now, we believe. SendGrid support is to thank for this reversal. 

We've lifted the ban pending further testing.

You'll continue with massive spam registration , every day. It's a common situation for all forums , every day. The solution is not start prohibit gmail account, to reduce add a strong captcha verification in registration page.

I also think this is not a good way to move forward, it's an easy way, but will cause more issues...
Do you want to talk about the mail setup in private and see if we can find a solid solution ?

We use Cleantalk. This is not for spam

This is because Google won't accept or deliver forum notifications .

No backseat driving here.

I get why you decided to not worry about it, but it is annoying that I have to use a different email address for this forum than I do any other site on the internet (with the exception of NeoGAF, who also don't allow Gmail, but then they don't allow any free email providers).

Update. This has been tentatively removed after SendGrid support kindly got some things updated.
