Octane single r12k or dual r10k -

Hello guys,
O would like your opinion on this situation:
I have an octane and have installed a single cpu r12k 300mhz, however I got my hands on an dual r10k 250mhz.
I have done some experiments it seems the r12k is snappier than the dual r10k which seems logical, however I have been reading many things on the net which say the opposite.
For example mplayer to play an .mpeg 640x480 has better performance on r12k.
What is your opinion and experience?
Should i keep the r12k or switch to the dual r10k
Thanks in advance

It only makes a difference if the applications you want to use are multithreaded, I'm pretty sure your IRIX version of mplayer is single-thread so yeah it will run better on the faster processor.

In my case done that a wile swapped a 300 mhz R12K for dual 250 R10K and the system feels faster overall.
Mostly when multitasking.

I’d use the dual…
An aside, is it 1MB or 2MB cache?
