Tezro textport not showing up - mashek - 09-22-2022

Anyone ever experience a problem with VPro graphics where the textport(grey background text screen in a large blue frame) doesn't show up on screen when booting?
I've got a Tezro that works great running on 6.5.30f but one issue, when booting I don't get the textport screen.   The monitor just looses sync until the thing is fully booted and shuts down.  This means that I can't boot single user, and had to install over console serial.  When I pulled the V12 and put one in from a Fuel, I got the textport, but not with the original graphics.  I had installed 6.5.27m on this system at the graphics console before, so I am hoping there is something in the software that I need to set.  I did a "resetenv" in the command monitor, which works just fine, BTW, but that did nothing.  I also noticed that when I did a stopgfx it worked just fine there too.  I started an odydiags -all before I left the warehouse yesterday, so I can add the summary later.   Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

This is probably due to the fact that the system isn't fitted with a DCD and you're using a DVI to HDMI adapter off the primary DVI output!

The system switches to an analog output as it boots and then switches back to a digital output once the OS comes up.

Try a DVI to VGA adaptor and this text port should show up during boot.

If the V12 is fitted with a DCD, then the output remains digital off the DCD's DVI ports.

Or use a DVI cable with a monitor that accepts DVI-A (Not a very common feature nowadays!)

I'm not sure if this is correct. I suspected the monitor, so I connected it to my 2410F that takes just about anything, and it has 2 DVI ports.
Also, the 030-1726-005 board shows the testport.

I don't know if the Tezro and Fuel V12's differ, but the Tezro definitely does this switch during boot!

Make sure your DVI cable is single-link DVI-I, ALL PINS (single link version, not full Dual-link version) for DVI.  If you try DVI-D cable you'll loose PROM screen.  PROM = DVI-A, Irix OS = DVI-D

DVI-D & DVI-A = DVI-I

Otherwise I'd wipe the NVRAM somehow buy using a Fuel to overwrite your L1 RTC Dallas chip to reprovision for the Tezro.

Visually at least, no. They do report themselves differently to hinv but both of them work exactly the same in an O350, to make it a rackmount Tezro. And the one that reports itself as a Tez V12 works perfectly in a Fuel.

But Mr Mashek here has a couple of each kind, so he can try both. You're welcome, Doug ... not.

You were right.  When I connected up a CRT via DVI2VGA adapter, it showed the textport screen.

That is interesting.  I will have to figure out which kind of cable I was using.  The Dell 2410F I was using has a DVI-D port and a DVI-I port.  I tried both, so I am guessing the cable I am using doesn't have the analog pins.

You can tell that you have the analog pins because they also formed the giant cross on the left-hand side of the connector while you're looking at it.

RE: Tezro textport not showing up - mashek - 09-24-2022

I looked, and my cable is a purely digital cable and it seems I only have DVI-D cables. I need to get in a DVI-I cable to try that out.
