Indigo2, Octane2, Indys and Posters - slime-eater - 01-30-2022

Oh man. So, I've resurfaced after a bit of a hiatus and started to inventory my SGI systems to move them onwards to other collectors.

So, it's not really a 'for sale' piece because I am a little unsure of what they're worth, and I am a bit loathe to ship anywhere beyond maybe a 300 mile radius of Portland, Oregon.

I was the IT administrator for a studio that had some SGIs in use which were later upgraded and they were kind enough to give it to me as I collected SGI's having worked there before I joined the studio.

I've been holding onto the Indigo2 and Octane2 for a long time as they were surplus/scrap from my former employer and doing very little with it, but I've got an SGI Octane 2 2xR14k-600mhz (dual internal 72GB HDDs) with Odyssey graphics, 4GB of Memory, DM2 breakout box, Wacom tablet (and pen), dark grey keyboard/mouse. The Stone had some dead Discreet drives in there (I think they were replaced with same-model-but-OEM-firmware-drives) in an attempt to re-grow the stonefs again.  I don't have the widescreen 24 inch SGI (Sony OEM) monitor that came with it, sadly.

It used a dongle for the Flame suite and Discreet took back the dongle when the studio upgraded to a newer Linux workstation.

The Octane2 was in service until around 2006 or so.  The Indigo2 was out of service maybe 2002.  The Indigo2 has a working node-locked Maya 2.5 installation on it, 100Mbit networking card, 256MB of RAM, and a 7200RPM 4.5GB Barracuda drive and internal CDROM drive.

I've got plenty of other SGI Indys, some are fine and need reimaging, some need a little extra TLC.

Anyways - I've already found a home for some of my SGIs but wanted to see if someone was possibly interested in the whole lot, and whether I should contact any shops that focus on keeping Flame/Flint SGIs online rather than risk breaking up the Octane2 further. (Too bad the studio didn't get to keep the Flame dongle!!)

I know previously I mentioned the posters I've also got, and I know there's interest for that, so I'll work on getting some pictures taken - this includes Nintendo/MIPS promotional posters as well as some other cool Infinite Reality promo stuff.

I'm trying to keep track of it all with a Google Spreadsheet as well. Whew!

I think you meant a 300 mile semi-circle... Tongue

Very interesting post though! Smile
