SGI Iris NFS - megaimg - 01-17-2022

I am trying to install NFS on a new 6.5.30 Deployment on a O2 using Booterizer. Their is a couple of conflicts but I dont know what CD I need to fix them... eoe.sw.base incompatible

RE: SGI Iris NFS - Raion - 01-17-2022

The ONC3/NFS disk is only applicable if you want to use IRIX as the NFS server. If you don't need that, you can skip it.

You need it for NFS Client 2 and 3

I can say with absolute certainty that NFSv3 clients work fine without that disc. You only need it for server operations.

In any case, if you insist, this is usually caused by a misconfiguration. Either you don't have the appropriate foundations loaded, or you have to run keep/install commands to fix this.

So how I install NFS3 without that disc!

RE: SGI Iris NFS - Raion - 01-17-2022

Let me rephrase myself so you understand:

A standard IRIX 6.5.x install can act as an NFS client. You need not install any specific subsystems. You just perform a standard install. Both the kernel and filesystem commands necessary to mount an NFSv3 system are installed. I will note, I have had less than optimal success using NFSV3 on anything other than the BSDs or Solaris/illumos as the host server. Trying from macOS or GNU/Linux is not very fun.

If you wish for the machine to act as a SERVER, you need to install the ONC3/NFS disk.

It's pretty black and white clear as crystal.

Ok, As far as I know the Standard Deployment of Irix 6.5.30 does not include the nfs client, you have to add that protocol, and for me when you use the NFS CD, it will only mark the NFS client for installation.... If NFS Client is available in the standard deployment please advice what it need to install...bellow my deployment of 6.5.30

return
keep *
install standard
keep incompleteoverlays
remove java_dev*
remove java2_plugin*
conflicts
# there should be no conflicts
go
# go for a walk
quit
# go for another walk
[elf binaries are prepared for use]
# the system will prompt to reboot

RE: SGI Iris NFS - stormy - 01-20-2022

@megaimg is correct, IRIX NFS doesn't work straight after system installation. The NFS client services need installing and they're on a seperate disk.

OK this thread reminded me: https://forums.sgi.sh/index.php?threads/nfs-weirdness.563/

Flexion says: "nfs.sw.nfs (NFS support) is incompatible with eoe.sw.base"... uhm!?

Then I say: " I installed NFS the other day and I had the same confusion, but it's because you need to install that with the overlays at the same time. So you gotta add all the Irix cd's to the installer, then that nfs one, then install nfs."

So yes use the ONC3/NFS Disc, but like I said, gotta add all the Irix cd's to the installer, then add the NFS disc and then it'll allow you to install nfs.sw.nfs.

Must be a .30 thing. Most of my stuff runs .22

RE: SGI Iris NFS - Nichosen - 01-20-2022

Hi Megaimg

I did a fresh install of an o2 just two days ago and I had the same problems.
I don’t recall exactly how I managed to installed it but I managed.
But like Stormy says, one have to include one of the overlay disks when installing via the software manager.. probably disc1.
I can look it up tomorrow cause I’ve got an Octane that will get the same treatment Smile
