Cheers

iptables is a Linux-only firewall. IRIX is system V derived (think similar to Solaris, Illumos, HP-UX) and like those has ipfilter, which is more similar to ipfw or the BSD PF/NPF solutions.

Information on the option.

Yeah I had figured as much - just hoping to save the learning curve.  Do you have a link to the package by chance?

ipfilter is often already preinstalled. Check if chkconfig has a "ipfilter" command. If not, I think it can be installed from the overlays?

I checked, not preinstalled - but I'll dig a bit deeper - thanks for the help! Smile

Ok, if someone else can tell Karyn what it's on or if there was an independent tardist (I never really used it so I never bothered to save things back when Nekochan was up, d'oh!!!)

Thanks once more for the help - my ultimate goal is to be able to block countries like iptables - chief offenders of course china, russia etc - if it's more trouble than it's worth, then I'll just rely upon an external firewall, which I do anyway, but I'll be opening 'httpd, ftpd, telnetd' and select other ports for an SGI BBS scene system so due diligence at the system level will be key.  Even back in the day I didn't use, nor was aware of ipfilter - so the learning curve will be steep.

Tardist can be found here: http://nekofiles.irixnet.org/General/6.5.16_ipfilter_3.4.27.tardist

And some documentation: https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Firewall-NAT_with_IPFilter
