Onyx 2 Caster Replacement -
indigofan - 09-29-2021
Just wondering if anyone has replaced the casters on an Onyx? Mine are trashed. All skins need to be removed to turn it on its side.. Just wondering if anyone has done a replacement job and or know the specs on the casters.

Not sure how helpful this would be but I looked into possibly replacing the wheels with ones similar to inline skates. I recall finding some that had the same diameter as the axles via Amazon. I didn’t replace mine since they just ended up needing a good cleaning and some lubrication. Might be worth looking into as a possibility.

I was thinking the same since I have some slider doors that are set up on roller blade wheels which slide really nice, however, they can't turn as casters can but if they can fit that would change the game. Did you happen to take note of the diameter? Have to take off all the skins and guts to get to the bolts to release them. Mine are literally toast, any time I move it, more plastic comes off and they leave horrible marks on the floors. I'm also in the desert where plastics get trashed fairly quickly and this box came from out east on a pallet where I am sure it got some extra desert heat exposure as it was about 105 the day when it got delivered didn't help the condition.

This is not uncommon even if they are not toast. At least, when I try to make a turn they do (they only want to go straight forward or backwards, really). I usually lift mine slightly off the floor when I want to turn it.

Unfortunately I think I scrapped the notes I took since this was about two years ago. But you’ll have to pull everything off to be able to flip the system upside down to easily work on the wheels. Not 100% necessary if you want to lay it on its side instead. I don’t believe the wheels caster—I don’t think any deskside system does. I know for sure the Crimson, Onyx, and Prism don’t. Should be relatively easy to put something in there that isn’t shattered into a million pieces.
