SCSI drive: dks0d1vh: Device not ready - rav - 06-30-2021

Hello SGI's Fans,

Sad situation -after system freeze, tried to restart and got:
dks0d1vh: Device not ready:  Not ready to perform command (asc=0x4, asq=0x0)

Indy R5000PC, IRIX 5.3, EFS
Nothing from  fx,  fsck,  dd,  prtvtoc ...

No stuck head sound

ANY chance to rescue the data ....?

Thanks in advance for any tips&tricks

Best,

Rav

1. Does the disk spin up? Might be stiction. Remedies for this are easily searched.
2. Check the hard drive for damaged components.
3. You might try to swap logic boards with an identical drive.

Hi again,

I bought another -almost thee same- disk drive, swapped electronics, run -nothing.
Put original electronics board back again -the drive had rose back !
Data rescued
