Moved into your specific RSE subforum. Again, as you are the only user whose active here on a regular basis it isn't a good fit for development since none of your actual development work goes on here, you're just mentioning it software-wise.

SDL2 has been ported for a while:
http://gitea.irixce.org/Nekoware-II/SDL-2

If you guys used any code, please update your gist to include credits to Axatax. As part of the intent here to ensure developer integrity, we would really like to ensure people get the proper credits.

Good job and thank you for sharing.

Yes, the issue is I can never remember where this forum is tucked away into. And porting seems like a reasonable place.

As for the SDL2 that was done 100% independently over in Finland and i'm assured there is nothing borrowed from nekoware.

The main point of this was the software binary distro and installation via RPM on a remote repo. This will make it much easier for people to start using software as it becomes available in between releases.

It's not tucked away anywhere. It's under IRIX/Software, RPM Software Environment, right next to the Nekoware subforum.

I see. I will independently verify this but in the meantime congratulations. My point is - the treatment of SGUG-RSE here and at your own forums are not the same. You are the only consistent poster, and any actual support or development discussions are carried out there. Until that changes, your subforum will be in IRIX/Software where it is best suited.

Yes, no problem with where it's at- I just always gravitate towards the Porting forum and then I'll admit I don't look much further. This is fine. As far as reciprocation- that is a fair request. I will talk to the Standing Committee and see if we can't create a NekowareII sub-forum the SGI.SH forum so that you all also have a place to post updates and notices and the like. I'll get back to you on that.

I will say that RPM is a real success, not only as a build env but also as a installation and (with tdnf/yum) dependency management system. I encourage you to explore the use of RPM for NekowareII and see if it's a good fit. The speed of installation is astonishing (for those of us used to inst and tardist, i mean slowdist).

RE: SDL2/Diablo ported over! - Raion - 04-13-2021

When the time comes that would be fine, we'll designate staff to handle updates.

If you can get more staff to participate here on a regular basis, we can talk about further integrating you guys. And I do mean this:

I may not personally care for the approaches taken, but it's unarguable that there's benefits to your particular approach. It's given all of us here something to think about.

> I encourage you to explore the use of RPM for NekowareII and see if it's a good fit.

I appreciate that, but currently there's no benefit for us on that front as of right now. As we aren't basing our dependency trees off an RHEL derivative, and we're looking to stay with tardists for better interoperability, it doesn't make much sense for us specifically to introduce a second package manager.

The other concern is of course you have to choose between basing releases off a rolling release OS like Fedora, or a long term support OS like RHEL/Rocky (formerly, CentOS) for your library versions and dependency trees. We desire a bit more flexibility, and Nekoware II is designed to be styled within the constraints of IRIX - it'll have old programs like XMMS juxtaposed with updated media players and games.

There are people currently working on a new version of inst with new features, and that'll be FOSS when it's done. Currently, the tardist library is moreorless done, so it's onto the actual part of it.

Ideally, down the line there'll either be a utility like the Linux util "alien" or a frontend on our inst implementation that will allow for RPM, or potentially other package formats to be used.

That also doesn't preempt any particular codesharing. As I currently do with xenopatches, any code we end up using from RSE patches will get mentioned in a CREDITS file or something of that accord.

I'm busy installing RSE 0.0.7 and everything (Just under 3GB total in 0.0.7beta)

Nice- now see how wide you can make it before it slows down. Just edit the diablo.ini and put in some big numbers for that tez!

RE: SDL2/Diablo ported over! - Irinikus - 04-13-2021

Here it is running at 1280x1024, and it runs extremely well at this resolution:
